Sandbach Thursday Market

In 1579, Sir John Radclyffe of Ordsall secured the right to hold fairs and markets in Sandbach from Queen Elizabeth I. There has been a Thursday market in Sandbach from this date. The market was originally held on the Market Square near the Saxon Crosses, but today it occupies the Market Hall (part of the Town Hall), the Scotch Common and also part of the main street. The Royal Charter also allowed for a fair on the last weekend in September.
