Marriott House & Park

marriott

A well-equipped modern Library stands at the eastern end of the Common. This was only built in 1970 and replaced the original Marriott House, once the home of Thomas Marriott who gave the building to the town in 1897 for educational and recreational purposes "for ever". A fireplace from the old house can be seen in the "Marriott Room" upstairs and the original main staircase is now the rear access to the meeting rooms.

The Park also formed part of the Marriott estate.
