The George Hotel is one of Sandbach's original coaching inns. It is certainly over 300 years old and was, in times past, a very busy place. The London stage called every afternoon at 4 p.m. "The Rocket" from Liverpool called at 11 a.m., and returned from Birmingham at 6 a.m., and "The Royal Sovereign" arrived at 8 a.m.. Sometimes prisoners in ball and chains could be seen outside on their way to Liverpool - and deportation.
