On Hightown stands the imposing Wheatsheaf Hotel built once again by Thomas Stringer in 1890. This was a welcome stop for weary travellers in stage coaches of old, the daily Manchester run stopping here, and a shuttle service running between Hightown and Sandbach railway station meeting steam trains plying between Manchester and Crewe.
